Is It Really Gluten-Free? Van's Gluten Free Buckwheat Waffles
I can't start a single morning without a pretty darn tasty--and filling--gluten free breakfast. One of my favorite breakfast options happens to consist of two gluten free waffles sandwiched together with sun nut butter in between.
But the other morning I was surprised to find blueberries lurking in my waffle-sun-butter sandwich. What where blueberries doing in my buckwheat waffles?
I was concerned about the discovery of these uninvited blueberries, because I wondered: if blueberries can make it into buckwheat, can gluten make it into gluten free?
Fortunately, my concerns were quickly laid to rest when my ELISA EZ Gluten Test came out negative and the nice people at Van's explained that blueberries are an unexpected, but usual ingredient in their g/f buckwheat waffles. In fact, they're even listed on the back! But Van's was very understanding and informed me that the labeling has caused a bit of confusion and will soon be adjusted.
I'm just glad that tomorrow I get to have another waffle sandwich!
